Notre Dame
The famous cathedral, a masterpiece of gothic art in Western Europe. The construction of the building was started already some 850 years ago and completed around 1345. During the centuries the cathedral changed its look several times and served for various purposes. Only when catholisism was reintroduced in France by Napopeon, the cathedral was "rechristened". It was also here that Napoleon crowned himself emperor in 1802.

No, I'm not going to climb up the stairs here!
The Eiffel Tower is 300m high and the highest platform one can climb to is on 276m. When it was completed in 1889 it was the tallest building in the world.

We finally decided to give it a go
by elevator though. The view is breathtaking; we could see the whole of Paris and also the distant suburbs. To see how I looked a few hours later, click the picture

The Arc de Triomphe
It was Napoleon who had this monument built for the glorification of his big army, a triumphal arch. This monument is situated at a very busy square called Place Charles de Gaulle (formerly Place de l'Etoile) where many avenues and streets meet, including the famous Champs Elysees
